There are so many people over the years that make me what I am today. How do I choose; parents, teachers, friends?
I suppose my grandmother is where I should start. She would make quilt blocks in her spare time (what little time there was at the end of the day). She didn’t have a real goal in mind, other than to use scraps she had left over from other projects and her imagination. She would have stacks of random blocks in the closet. Eventually, she would have enough of one kind that she said: “went together”. Then she would sew them into a quilt. She liked the freedom of just creating what she wanted at that moment.
My father created stained glass when I was a child. I remember using crayons to color in his pattern books. I felt like I was making them too.
My mother-in-law makes beautiful quilt creations. She taught me that it's never too late to try something new.
I took all their inspiration and ran with it. I have so many ideas and things that I love, that sometimes I feel a little crazy. But crazy is a good thing in art! Don't you agree?
